Iraq: Allawi and Barzani fail to dislodge al-Maliki

A source in the Iraqi list that existing leader Ayad Allawi and Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, failed yesterday in an interview reunion in Erbil representative of the Sadrist movement and Congress leader Ahmed Chalabi, to agree on a replacement Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki Chalabi or set Allawi alternative to President Jalal Talabani, adding that the refusal of the Islamic Supreme Council headed by Ammar al-Hakim was the most important reasons.

The source said that “the meeting in Arbil between Barzani and Allawi, Chalabi and a representative of the Sadrist movement, did not reach an agreement on replacing Maliki Chalabi, and that topic is still under discussion between them, and will be completed in the new meeting” in the coming hours, without revealing the identity of representative of the Sadrist movement.

The source indicated that “the most prominent reasons for non agreement of the parties meeting in Arbil, due to the lack of consent of the Supreme Council of the Islamic provide candidate has succeeding owners,” adding that “the meeting was limited to the issue of replacing the prime minister, and Sacetkmlon their discussions later even exit agreement final.”

The source added that the meeting did not come out of the results about the possibility of proposing the installation of Allawi substitute for the incumbent president, Jalal Talabani, as a kind of balance of government, adding that another meeting will be held between the Kurdish parties to discuss what has been reached with some Iraqi parties. He stated that there are unexpected meetings end of the month between the parties to the political process, especially the State of Law coalition led by al-Maliki.
