A technical problem forced US Vice President Kamala Harris’s plane to return to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland about 25 minutes after it departed, Sunday (June 6, 2021), for a flight to Guatemala and Mexico.
The plane landed safely, and a spokeswoman for the vice president, Simone Sanders, told reporters who accompanied Harris that the vice president would be leaving on another plane in less than an hour. “It’s a technical issue,” Sanders said. “There are no safety concerns.”
On her first vice president foreign trip, Kamala Harris is looking forward to deepening diplomatic ties with Guatemala and Mexico, which are a pillar of the Biden administration’s efforts to stem the escalation of immigration across the US border.
