Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi separated, on Friday, the constitutional procedures for electing the new president of the republic, stressing that the parliament’s presidency has 30 days to elect the president of the republic, noting that if the parliament fails to elect the president of the republic during the Saturday session, it has a one-time postponement to the date of April 6.

Al-Tamimi added, “If we exceed this period, we will be in front of an explicit violation of the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, which authorized the opening of the nomination door for one time, and we will be facing an irresolvable failure, and Parliament may be dissolved at the request of a third of the members and the approval of the absolute majority of the number of members in accordance with Article (64) of the A constitution, or a referendum of the Federal Supreme Court if that is done to find out the constitutional implementation, and we may be in the event that this happens before new early elections, and the current government continues to conduct daily affairs.”

Al-Tamimi indicated that “in the event that the vote begins to choose the new President of the Republic, which stipulated the Federal Court’s decision to open the session, a two-thirds majority of the total number of Parliament means 220 deputies, and that they be present at the start of the voting, according to the Federal Court’s decision to open the door for nomination with this percentage in The first round, and if none of the candidates obtains this percentage, we will be facing a second round in which the competition is limited to the highest winners, the first and the second, and which one of them gets the majority of votes, explaining that “if the first gets (50) votes and the second gets (30), it will be The owner of the 50 votes is the President of the Republic, and he takes the constitutional oath before Parliament and in the presence of the President of the Federal Court in accordance with Article (70) of the Constitution and Law (8) of 2012.”

He pointed out that “the election is by direct secret ballot by placing the papers in the box in the two rounds,” stressing that “the president and the ministers can vote in one day.”

And Al-Tamimi continued, “The President of the Republic then assigns the candidate of the parliamentary bloc the most numerous within 15 days of taking the oath, which has not been determined so far, as he assigns him to form a government, and the government curriculum within 30 days of his assignment in accordance with Article 76 of the Constitution, with all its details.”
