The Basra Agriculture Directorate announced, on Tuesday, that the level of production and marketing of the tomato crop this month has increased to more than 75,000 tons.
The director of the Zubair Agriculture Division, Saleh Hassan, told local agencies, “The daily production approached 5 thousand tons, achieving a significant increase from the natural production rates.”
He added, “The rate of marketing of the crop from the Unified Center in Al-Barjisia began to escalate, expecting that the final production of the crop during the current agricultural season will exceed half a million tons.”
Hassan pointed out that “the prices offered in the marketing center ranged between 6000-12000 thousand dinars per box.”
He revealed “the increased arrival of marketers from the central and northern regions of the country in addition to the southern governorates, which has led to achieving sufficiency in the local markets.”
