Shafaq News/ Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received today, Wednesday, the Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, a joint statement was made between the two sides, where Al-Sudani described Barzani’s visit to Baghdad as “important,” adding, “We held a constructive and purposeful dialogue on various internal issues and regional situations.”
He said, “We have made significant progress in building trust between the federal government and the regional government, and we have overcome many problems inherited over the years, in accordance with the constitution and the law.”
Al-Sudani added, “We are moving towards opening up development opportunities and future prospects in a way that brings goodness, prosperity and well-being to our people everywhere.”
The Prime Minister stressed that “the regional situation and the developments taking place were an important part of this discussion, which represents a necessity in light of this difficult stage facing the region, and the emphasis on the security, sovereignty and independence of Iraq, and that it be far from the arena of conflicts while maintaining our principled positions towards various just issues.”
For his part, the Kurdish leader said during the joint statement that he was “very happy to meet the Prime Minister.”
He added, “My visit to Baghdad aims to enhance the efforts made by the Prime Minister, which led to a real breakthrough in the relationship between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.”
Barzani continued, “Our dialogue was constructive regarding the internal and regional situations, and the views were identical.”
Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani arrived in the capital, Baghdad, on Wednesday morning.
Shafaq News Agency correspondent said that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Minister of Planning Mohammed Tamim, Minister of Defense Thabet Al-Abbasi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi, Minister of Construction and Public Municipalities Benkin Rikani and a number of government officials and military leaders received the Kurdish leader and his accompanying delegation at Baghdad International Airport.
Barzani’s headquarters had announced earlier this morning that the visit of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani to the city of Baghdad comes with the aim of holding a series of meetings with official bodies and Iraqi political parties and holding meetings with political leaders.
The Coordination Framework, which includes the ruling Shiite political forces and parties in Iraq, is hosting Massoud Barzani in its regular meeting scheduled to be held later today, Wednesday, according to what an informed source revealed to the agency.
