Today, Wednesday, the representative of the State of Law coalition, Alia Nassif, revealed the date for choosing a replacement for the dismissed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi.
Nassif said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “The sacked Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, will face a criminal case on charges of forgery, according to the Federal Court’s decision that terminated his membership in the House of Representatives,” noting that “the nomination of Al-Halbousi’s replacement for the presidency of Parliament will occur after the provincial council elections.”
She added, “The Federal Court indicated in its decision regarding the invalidity of Muhammad al-Halbousi’s membership in the House of Representatives that he had committed a legal violation by forgery, and this matter opened another case file before the criminal courts.”
Nassif pointed out that “the dismissed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, will face a lawsuit before the criminal courts on charges of forgery, according to the decision of the Federal Supreme Court.”
She pointed out that “the nomination of an alternative to Al-Halbousi to head Parliament is definitely up to the Sunni forces,” suggesting that “the nomination will take place until after the provincial council elections because the legislative term has ended constitutionally.”
Yesterday, the Federal Court decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, after the ruling in the case of former MP Laith Al-Dulaimi.
