Al-Fatah confirms Baghdads commitment to ending foreign presence in IraqMember of the Fatah Alliance, Ali Al-Fatlawi, commented Friday (December 27, 2024), on the possibility of the Iraqi government requesting an extension of the international coalition’s mission after recent regional developments.

Al-Fatlawi said in a press interview, “The American and other media reports that talk about the Iraqi government’s intention to request an extension of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq after regional developments are far from reality. There is no such intention or idea in Baghdad.”

He added, “The Iraqi government is committed to implementing the schedule for ending the missions of the international coalition and ending the presence of any official forces, especially since the security forces are capable of preserving the security and stability of Iraq, and are capable of defending the Iraqi borders, despite all the recent regional developments, so there is no need for the international coalition or any foreign force.”

It is noteworthy that Iraq and the United States announced in a joint statement last September that the military mission of the international coalition will end by September 2025, with a transition to bilateral security partnerships.
