Member of the House of Representatives, Ali Turki, confirmed today, Saturday, the continuation of issues of corruption and extortion in foreign authorities, while stressing that the solution lies in the formation of a new security apparatus specialized in combating extortion and supervising commercial transportation operations between the governorates.

Turki said, in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, that “there are networks that control this file, which produces billions annually,” noting that “all the previous steps that were formed and called the joint venture did not succeed in stopping the bribes and royalties imposed on the entry and exit of goods.”

He continued, “The file of fake ports in the Kurdistan region needs to be controlled in order to end the drain on the country’s resources,” noting that “the region’s illegal ports represent one of the important financial sources for the Kurdistan government.”

The member of the House of Representatives concluded his speech: “Extortion operations have reached the point of destroying goods or seizing them in the event that bribes are not accepted,” pointing out that “the solution lies in forming a new security apparatus specialized in combating extortion and supervising commercial transportation operations between the governorates.”

A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Waad Al-Qaddo, revealed, in an interview with the Al-Ma’louma Agency, the formation of a higher committee to re-evaluate external controls throughout Iraq.
