A leader in the rule of law - This way the Kurds guarantee the legitimacy of the referendum[Baghdad – where]
revealed a leader in the coalition of state law, on the way through which the referendum of the region on its independence can be legitimized.
“The visit of the regional delegation to Baghdad a few weeks ago to the National Alliance and discussions were held during their visit to confirm that the referendum lacks the legal and constitutional cover,” Salah Abdul Razzaq said at a seminar organized by the Ishan Center for Strategic Studies.
“The referendum could be legitimate if there is a genuine desire for independence,” he said. “The constitution must be amended and the referendum must be held by all the Iraqi people, including the Kurdish demand for separation.”
He added that “in the case of differences of views in the interpretation of the Constitution must be resorted to the Federal Court as the highest judicial body to settle the disputes of the Center and the region.”
The Iraqi Kurdistan region is due to hold a referendum on independence on May 25 amid Iraqi and international rejection.
