A Kurdish bloc calls for accelerating the legislation of the oil and gas law

On Saturday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan parliamentary bloc called on the government to expedite the drafting of the oil and gas law, which has been pending since 2005, noting that legislating the law is the only way to end the disputes between the region and the center.
The bloc’s spokeswoman, Suzanne Mansour, said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The oil and gas law since 2005 has not seen the light of day, which hinders any efforts to end the crises between Baghdad and Erbil.”
She added that “enacting the law will serve Iraq in general and end the disputes between the region and the center,” and stressed the necessity of “cooperating between Baghdad and the region to find quick solutions for legislating the oil and gas law.”
She pointed out that “everyone hopes to resolve the outstanding controversial points and proceed with the procedures for legislating the law within the dome of Parliament.”
The Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee confirmed, earlier, Parliament’s intention to legislate the oil and gas law during the current session, while indicating that approving the law will contribute to solving the problems between Baghdad and Erbil.
