US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that his country supports early elections in Iraq.
Pompeo said during a press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein that “Washington will not focus on the military file in its dialogue with Iraq.”
He noted, “His country supports early elections in Iraq and will provide 240 million dollars in new aid to Iraq.”
For his part, the Iraqi foreign minister said, “Baghdad and Washington were in one trench in fighting ISIS, and we will continue cooperation.”
“We have launched the second round of the strategic dialogue between Iraq and America,” he said.
Before that, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf said, “The second round of the Iraqi-American strategic dialogue in Washington began a short while ago.
He added, “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his American counterpart Pompeo open the Iraqi-American strategic dialogue session.”
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi arrived today, Wednesday, at the head of a government delegation to Washington on an official visit.
