Kuwait conference begins tomorrow with Iraqi ambitions[Aynah] The
activities of the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KIED) will be held on Monday, February 14-14.
Iraq is looking forward to the conference with generous contributions to the reconstruction of its devastated cities, estimated at $ 100 billion.
The conference, which is being held under the auspices of the Amir of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is attended by a number of major donor countries and a number of international and regional organizations in order to collect the contributions and assistance needed for the reconstruction of Iraq following the wars and conflicts affected by many provinces and regions.
The conference will include several developmental and vital dimensions. The participation of the private sector will contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq, as well as the participation of the World Bank as a major contributor to the conference in order to provide the required investment guarantees for companies and private sector institutions to participate in the development of Iraq.
The conference, which is chaired by five parties – Iraq, the European Union, Kuwait, the United Nations and the World Bank – reflects the long-standing relationship between Iraq and Kuwait, which has been distorted by the brutal war policy of the regime ousted by Kuwait in the 1990s.
The conference is being held at a time when the Iraq war is putting an end to the human and material losses caused by the war. Iraq is working to rebuild the conflict zones and establish humanitarian and development projects to protect the victims of war and rehabilitate the country’s infrastructure.
The Iraqi delegation, headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, will hold a working agenda on three main axes: reconstruction and investment, supporting stability in the country and promoting peaceful co-existence among different sectors of Iraqi society.
The first day of the conference will discuss the damage caused by the war and the need to address it, as well as projects to support stability, community reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
The second day of the conference will discuss the procedures for creating the appropriate environment for investment, as 212 projects will be offered to all sectors of the Iraqi economy, including projects in the Kurdistan region.
The third day of the conference, sponsored by Abadi and the Emir of Kuwait, will be attended by the UN Secretary-General, the World Bank President and the European Union (EU) coordinator.
The conference will be accompanied by three specialized conferences, the first [reconstruction of Iraq] and presented in its meetings details of documents on direct and indirect damage and the efforts required to improve the economic and service situation in the presence of hundreds of international experts and representatives of ministries and related parties.
The second conference, entitled “[NGO Conference to Support the Humanitarian Situation in Iraq], will discuss the support of stability and response to the immediate needs of about 70 delegates from Iraqi and Arab charities and civil society organizations and a number of representatives of the concerned parties.
The third conference, entitled “Invest in Iraq,” is attended by representatives of hundreds of companies, including a large qualitative exhibition involving a group of public companies belonging to the Ministry of Industry, Minerals, Ministries and others to make investment proposals in this regard.
“We do not wait for miracles to reconstruct Iraq from a single step, but we are working on several steps, and Kuwait is one of these steps,” Abadi said at the weekly press conference last Tuesday.
“Iraq is not begging anyone. The Iraqis sacrificed their blood to eradicate terrorism and broke it. They saved the region and the world from its danger. There must be help for Iraqis on the humanitarian side, reconstruction of all areas of Iraq and investment in all areas and all sectors.”
